The main reason why Mikel Obi was sacked by his Turkish club Trabzonspor has been revealed, according to the report in Turkish Football Tv.
The former Chelsea hero criticized the Turkish football administration for not suspending football action despite the pandemic coronavirus affecting humanity at large that forced European major league into suspension in the last weeks.
The former Super Eagles captain expressed his displeasure for playing for his club when he was called upon to play due to the coronavirus effect which led Trabzonspor to terminate his contract.
The effect of the pandemic is well known around the world it has claimed the lives of people especially the aged ones.
The European football governing body UEFA has also taken measures to suspend the Champions League and the Europa League and the body has also gone an extra mile to postpone the EURO 2020 to next year summer in 2021 as a result of the spread of the virus.
However, despite the measures being put in place by sporting federations and UEFA to keep players and fans safe, the Turkish top division is still in action.
The former Super Eagles captain was unhappy with the decision of the Super Lig administrators to continue despite the measure put in place by the football governing body and other major Leagues around Europe.
However, it appears the post has got him in trouble as he has had his contract terminated by Trabzonspor according to Turkish Football TV.
The former Chelsea star reportedly refused to play in the Karadeniz Fırtınası’s 1-1 draw against Istanbul Basaksehir on Sunday.
Mikel’s contract was terminated based on that, the former Chelsea midfielder joined from Middlesbrough last summer.
