HOPLITE FOUNDATION ENLIGHTENED NASARAWA SCHOOL CHILDREN ON GENOTYPE AND SICKLE CELL

may 7th 2021 was an amazing day for the Hoplite team as they spent some time with Marvelous international school students inAdo karu local government Nasarawa state which was part of their school tour mandate!

Hoplites Foundation is an initiative with the soul aim of giving opportunities to sickle cell warriors and making them realise that they can impact lives with the believe that sickle cell is not a death sentence and also creating awareness about sickle cell, encouraging them to know their genotype and flee from getting married if there is genotype incompatibility.

Most importantly these kids were encouraged to always support people living with sickle cell and to also stop the stigmatization, HSF also made them understand that having kids with sickle cell can be avoided if only they know their genotype before marriage.

We from HSF have envisioned a sickle cell free world and we’ll stop at nothing to create more awareness both to kids and adults.
We (HSF) also had the opportunity of having a WARRIOR talk to them, the founder of Judith Ojonugwa Sickle Cell Foundation who also shared her sickle cell journey and explained in details the challenges she faced, the stigmatization, pains and how she was able to live and still live. It was also an emotional moment when Anna O Ochigbo the founder of this foundation (Hoplite Sickle Cell Foundation) shared her childhood experience and the death of her siblings who were warriors too.

The students and teachers of marvelous international school Ado received us with warmth and admitted to having a swell time with us. This being our first outreach happened to be a fantastic one and we cannot wait to tour around Nigeria and the world at large!
